The Northwest Suburban Community Aging in Place Advancing Better Living for Elders (CAPABLE) Replication Demonstration Projects a pilot living-in-place program that aims to help seniors live independently in their home and more fully engage in daily activities.
Once someone is deemed eligible for the program, an occupational therapist, nurse, and handyman come to them to deliver services over a four month period. These visits will include initial screening, discussion of priority of goals, identifying and implementation of home repairs/modifications, exercises, and strategies to reach goals, and then final completion of services and evaluations.

Home maintenance is a concern for many seniors. Buffalo Grove has collaborated with the North West Housing Partnership (NWHP) to create the Senior Handyman Program for residents aged 65 and older.
The hourly fee paid by the senior customer ranges from $10 - $30 an hour depending on income. Homeowners are responsible for the cost of materials for the repairs.
Examples of eligible work include: installation of grab bars, soffit repair, toilet repair, door locks, clearing drains, installing ceiling fans, gutter cleaning, screen repair, hanging shelves, pictures and curtains.
Scheduled repairs are limited to two hours of service and emergency repairs cannot be accommodated.

Through an arrangement with American Taxi and 303 Cab Company, the Village of Buffalo Grove offers elderly and disabled residents a $2.50 discount on all meter fares originating or terminating in Buffalo Grove. There is no limit on the number of rides a resident may take per month.

Vernon Township has a taxi program for Seniors and Disabled residents. The 50/50 Taxi program offers coupons that are purchased for $1.50 with a coupon value of $3. Coupons are sold in $15 increments and limited to $75 per household, per month and are used only with American Taxi Company.
